Kindness

What does it say about our values,

That,

when I made myself available

To talk a friend through a mental health crisis,

That act,

Engendered romantic feelings toward me.

A basic act of human dignity,

Becomes much more.

Acting as a friend,

is put up on a pedistal

As if it is a rarity of so much value

What does that say about us?

I like people whose default setting toward others is compassion, an open mind, and honesty
