The Birthday

I know the difference between

A persona, and a person.

And I know that even the persona

Of Shania Twain,

Will never be my BFF,

As much as I dreamed about it as a kid

Because she filled me

with confidence and hope

And it has lasted eighteen years,

Through condescension,

and hospitals,

so many hospitals.

When August 28th comes every year,

I celebrate her birthday,

Like I would my momma’s,

And my sisters’

With joy and light.

I am a writer with an extremely active imagination. I love learning answers to questions and what makes everything and everyone tick. I am a "Unique case, medically" if nothing else. I am flawed in my extreme aversion to failure (even when "success" isn't good for me,) but have come a long way in ditching the perfectionist mindset. I like people whose default setting toward others is compassion, an open mind, and honesty
